Springs 8th-grade Homeschool student Ezra Hendricks, 14, has shown a real talent for hockey. His team recently won the One Hockey California Tournament, with him being named “player of the game” in game 2, a hat trick in the championship game and MVP of the tournament.
He said, “I love hockey! It’s my favorite sport. I love skating and I do my best to help my team.”
The Hesperia resident has been playing hockey since age 5. Previously, he wore jersey #47 for his sister who has 47 chromosomes. She’s been battling cancer, he noted, and “it’s been a hard four years.” He’s presently wearing #17, which is the number of his father’s favorite NHL player. His father, too, has been battling cancer, Ezra noted, but is now in remission.
Homeschooling has worked well for him, giving him the chance to develop his skills as a hockey player and devote time to those in his family who have been sick. He noted that all of his siblings are homeschooled.
Other interests include bass fishing and the outdoors, and Ezra added, “I’m a person of faith.” After graduating high school, he hopes to go on to play college hockey.
