Eight Springs students were awarded silver medals for their contributions to the 2019 Riverside Science and Engineering Fair in April. The students competed against more than 500 other entries. The students honored and their projects submitted include:
Antoinette Kobus – Which is the Best Water to Drink?
Spencer Holland and Sebastian Ortega (team project) – Do Dogs Prefer a Certain Color?
Aidan Christopher – The Delicious Battery
Kayla McCarty – How Do Your Visual and Auditory Senses Affect Your Memory?
Cadence Wright – What Type of Essential Oil Reduces the Most Mouth Bacteria?
Sadie Romero – Which Biodegradable Laundry Detergent Removes Stains Best?
Brian Chu – Bioplastic Degradation; Brian also received a Naval Science Award.
Sebastian Ortega said he and friend Spencer Holland, 5th graders in Springs’ Corona Student Center Mosaic Program, selected their project, Do Dogs Prefer a Certain Color?, because they both had dogs and thought it would be helpful to know when training them. The pair tested three colors, yellow, purple and blue, using their dogs, a Shih Tzu and German Shepherd. They discovered that the dogs most preferred blue.
Sebastian said, “The science project was fun and meaningful … it was an awesome and interesting experience.”
