Transcript Analysis

All high school student academic progress should be calculated on the student’s Academic Plan Worksheet (APW) and reviewed yearly with the student for ongoing academic evaluation and planning to insure student progress towards accomplishing graduation and post high school goals. The Academic Planning Worksheet (APW) is designed for transcript analysis for students transferring from other high schools and well as for use in providing clear communication and expectations between staff, parent and student.

Academic Plan Worksheet (APW)

The following steps should be taken when completing the APW:

  1. Analyze all transcripts
  2. Update Academic Plan each semester
  3. Determine “In Progress” Courses
  4. Review units in progress with student and parent|
  5. Obtain Parent initials and date of review in update box at bottom of APW

Academic advisement staff must use the exact course titles on the Student Agreement (see Master Course List).

Transcripts From Other Schools

Many of Springs’ high school students earn grades and units from other high schools during their high school academic career. Some important tips when working with transcripts from other schools include:

  1. Always work from the original transcript
  2. Understand course titles and equivalent course levels. Most public schools in California offer course levels that are equivalent to Springs’ A-G course titles. A-G course titles from other California schools can be verified on the University of California A-G course list search engine on the UC website.
  3. Use the credit summary often included on transcripts. The credit summary indicates the graduation requirements met from the student’s previous school.
  4. When unsure of whether a course title will meet SCS graduation requirements, record the course title on the worksheet section of the APW until verification of the course content is complete.
  5. The ES or teacher of record should contact the student’s previous school for additional information on questionable course titles and content.
  6. Parents and students may be expected to obtain course descriptions and/or course syllabi or other verifying documentation to verify questionable course titles or content.
