California Oregon Trail – Pioneer Trek

preview flyer

(This program has a lot of walking and challenging physical activities)

Step back in time, to become the characters and commoners of history often engaging themselves in the very issues, trades, and skills that shaped our locale and nation.
Students and parents are encouraged to choose a pioneer, emigrant, native, foreigner, Argonaut, Cowboy, or plain or famous character for the era and come in the garb of the 19th century.
During this 6 hour program of the Pioneer Trek, students will experience what it was like to set out for unknown territory. You will prepare wagons with supplies, tools, seeds, etc. Walk the unending trail over uneven and rough ground as you hear pioneer stories and vignettes of bandits, rations, the telegraph, a pioneer burial, and wedding.
Once the pioneer settlement is established, you can stake your land, farm, ranch, or mining claim. Learn how to plow and cultivate the land and enjoy some pioneer pastimes such as hoops and sticks, music, dance, and cotillions.
