Hannah Hanks, age 9, is an active member of the Glen Avon 4-H club, traveling with her show animals to several shows and fairs each year. The Jurupa Valley/Riverside resident is going into the 4th grade with Springs’ Magnolia Academy; being part of the program allows her to be away at these shows a week or more at a time.
Hannah’s animals include three horses, seven Hampshire sheep, one market lamb, two market sheep, one Flemish Giant rabbit and seven guinea pigs. She spends much of her free time training, feeding and grooming her animals.
Hannah has been a member of the 4-H since 2014. Her parents were members of the Jurupa Valley FFA (Future Farmers of America) while in high school and enjoyed raising animals and participating in leadership activities with that program. When they graduated, they became volunteer leaders for the Glen Avon 4-H club. When Hannah was old enough to participate, her parents let her join the 4-H club to help Hannah with social interaction as well as developing an outlet for her love of animals. The family lives on a property in Jurupa Valley suitable for raising animals.
Hannah’s future plans include becoming a veterinarian for horses and farm animals. Her plan is to open an office and hire her dad to help her with handling the animals while she doctors them. Her mom and Nana, she said, will handle scheduling and billing.
Hannah loves attending the Magnolia Academy. She enjoys the learning environment and its attentive and helpful teachers. She likes the students and everyone is friendly.
Hannah’s other interests include participating in Gymkhana shows with her horse, art, crafting, music, and dance.
