Anthony Pulido, a 12-year-old 7th grader with Venture Online Academy, is an avid reader. He reads four hours a day; his favorite subject matter includes comic/graphic novels, fiction, science fiction, fables and mythology.
He especially likes Rick Riordan’s Percy Jackson series. He also likes to draw comic book characters and characters to go along with the stories he reads. He got into reading when a teacher assigned a book to him to read. He said, “After that I was hooked. I’ve even had teachers tell me not to read so much.” He continued, “I like reading books because it takes me to another world and lets my imagination go free. I love art when I get to draw a setting or character.”
He hopes one day to be a writer. He said, “I hope one day to write books for kids and adults that can take them on fun journeys.”
His teacher, Emily Parzick, said Anthony chose Venture because traditional school “just wasn’t working out for him, and he wanted to try a different way of learning.” She continued, “He is learning to express what direction he wants his educational path to flow. He is beginning to understand that he has a voice in his choices. Anthony has a great memory, and hopefully Venture will be a positive experience that he will always remember fondly.”
