What is a Charter School?

Charter schools are free independent public schools with rigorous curriculum programs and unique educational approaches. In exchange for operational freedom and flexibility, charter schools are subject to higher levels of accountability than traditional public schools. Charter schools, which are tuition-free and open to all students, offer quality and choice in the public education system.

A Message from the Superintendent

It is with great pride we celebrate more than 15 years of providing free public school education for the children in Southern California!  We are trailblazers of a new and improved 21st-century education.

Our programs have thrived due to our commitment to our mission. We provide choice by having a wide variety of programs ranging from full-time online education to different degrees of classroom participation. We personalize learning by tailoring education to the individual needs of each child.  We use the community as the classroom by providing more than 75 field trips a year and by having a close connection with business partners that allow us to place our high school students on internships in their own communities. Our authentic education ensures that children are truly prepared to be independent, lifelong learners when they graduate from a Springs Charter School.

We are delighted to present you with an introduction to our unique model of education.  Please call (951) 252-8888 for more information.

Sincerely,

Dr. Kathleen Hermsmeyer

Superintendent

Springs internship program gives you the opportunity to go out into the real world and see what it has to offer. You have the opportunity to network with professionals and create friendships that will last a lifetime. Springs will help you find a business that you would love to work for. Show them your passion and eagerness to work and learn. You’d be surprised how many people would love to share what they know with you. Taken seriously, this program will put you years ahead of your competition and give you a head start on your career. Thanks to the Springs internship program, I’m an 18-year-old professional chef working for the newest winery in Temecula, with constant opportunities to grow.

Choose your K-12 path...

Homeschool

Name: Sofie D.

Age: 15 Grade: 11

I chose: Homeschool

Why? Flexibility is extremely important to me and Springs is a great place to learn because I get my specific needs met.

Sofie says: “The best thing is that if I know a subject well, like math, I can continue to advance at my own pace. Also, if I need more help on a subject, I can take my time and really make sure I understand it before moving on to the next concept. Also, I get the one-on-one attention I need, a better education, and my Mom is a great teacher!”

Sofie is a well-known contortionist and plans to run her own entertainment company or be a marine biologist - or maybe both!

Online Study

Name: Alina H.

Age: 15 Grade: 9

I chose: Venture Online Academy

Why? To have more time to practice my violin. Alina hopes to attend Julliard in New Your City on scholarship and become a concert soloist.

Alina says: “The course work is fun and challenging, and I have an awesome teacher. It is so convenient to just walk across our hallway and “go to school”, I am so happy that we found this school!”

She advices new students to do their best and work hard at what they do. To talk to the teachers about anything that confuses them, they are there to help. If you communicate with them regularly, you will never feel overwhelmed or lost.

Two-Day Academy

Name: Kavlyn P.

Age: 11 Grade: 5

I chose: A two-day academy

Why? It’s not focused on today’s assignment or tomorrow’s test, but about developing a love for learning and problem-solving.

Kavlyn says: “It’s fun to do projects and go on field trips. My favorite one  was Legoland; it was amazing! I also really enjoy taking my time when I need to or getting to progress faster if I want.”

Three-Day Academy

Name: Rylie H.

Age: 11 Grade: 6

I chose: A three-day academy

Why? For the multi-age classroom, the ability to

work ahead, and the variety of activities.

Rylie says: “I love the small school. I’m allowed and encouraged to work ahead of my grade level. The teachers are great, and I love to mix homeschool with classes with my friends!”

Four-Day Academy

Name: Nevaeh A.

Age: 12 Grade: 8

I chose: iShine Student Center

Why? “The teachers teach us important things like integrity and intrinsic motivation. The freedom to use my own learning style is great for me because I get to be creative and am encouraged to try new things and look for new perspectives.”

Nevaeh hopes to be a children’s book author when she grows up.

Five-Day Academy

Name: Tanner L.

Age: 11 Grade: 5

I chose: A five-day academy

Why? Springs’ flexible schedule  accommodates his intensive dance schedule.

Tanner says: “I have been dancing since age 2½. I train in the styles of tap, jazz, lyrical, contemporary, hip-hop, gymnastics, musical theater, ballet and most recently pointe. My goal in life is to perform on Broadway, so every day after school I head to the dance studio!”
