Springs Venture Online junior Caden Carlstrom, 16, was a poll worker for the November 3rd election. He was prompted to apply for the job because of his interest in politics and government.
To prepare for his duties, he attended a 2 1/2-hour training session “filled with so much information that it was hard to remember” and took an oath to discharge his duties faithfully. He spent election day setting up flags, pitching tents, and assisting voters; he kicked off the day declaring to voters, “Ladies and gentlemen, the polls are now open!”
The experience was “amazing,” he said, and he looks forward to doing it again. It was a long and exciting day, he said, and “I wouldn’t have been able to participate if I had not chosen to attend Venture Online.” He has been a Venture Online student for three years and is particularly grateful for his teachers there. He said, “I have had a wonderful time in Venture.”
