Melanie Gomez, 17, is a junior with the KEYS program. She is in her second year with the program. She likes Springs, she said, because “I get to work in my own environment where I have no distractions, and I have such a great education specialist (Chelsie Simpson) who is always there to help me and to motivate me to work hard and to do my best.”
She continued, “Springs has worked out great for me, my grades have improved dramatically.” Melanie’s favorite subjects are English and Spanish. After graduation, she wants to go on to college and earn a degree in criminal justice or social work. Outside of school she enjoys listening to music and makeup. She said, “I can’t live without music or makeup. Music and makeup are both two different types of arts but they are ways that people express themselves, and I love that.”
