Nine Springs Students to Participate in National History Day State Championships

Nine Springs students will participate in the State Championships for National History Day in Rocklin, California May 6-7: Aidan Bostworth, Joshua Hermann, Rafael Ibarra, Katelyn Jenkins, Agatha McIntyre, Logan Pinchback, Cameron Quijada, John Yarbrough, and Karl Zeiber.

Each student worked on an individual or group project at his/her school site or Homeschool environment to research, develop a thesis and complete a project in his/her chosen category and subject to align with National History Day’s theme of Exploration, Encounter and Exchange.  He/she then took the project from his/her site competitions to the Springs-wide, then countywide competitions.  Nine were then selected for State Championships.

Site-based Springs programs often require the student to develop a project as part of his/her history class, and many Springs online programs recommend it as well.  Homeschool participants are invited to participate from Springs’ events program through their education specialist.

“This is a great opportunity to teach our students to bring a large research project to fruition which is a powerful life skill to have as they enter the workplace,” said Jessica McIntyre, a Springs Education Specialist and parent.  Her daughter, Agatha, is among those heading to State Championships with a performance piece at the junior level called “Boudicca, the Warrior Queen: A Bard’s Retelling.”

Jessica continued, “It takes many hours of preparation and planning, but the benefits are huge.”
