Cameron Durant, 17, is a 12th grade KEYS student who is part of the Corona Fire Explorers program. It teaches teens and young adults about career opportunities in the Fire Service.
The Lake Elsinore resident said, “It is teaching me about the training and giving me the real life experiences of a firefighter. I’m personally doing this because it is my career goal to become a firefighter.” He said that the program was both challenging and rewarding “mentally and physically” but “a very fun experience.” Cameron joined Springs in 9th grade. The program has worked well for him; he said, “by not only giving me more time to do my activities but providing me with an amazing education specialist [Ellen Minor] to help me when I need it.” Outside of school, Cameron enjoys wakeboarding and riding dirt bikes.
