Springs Journey Homeschool student Kylee White, grade 9, age 14, has been a talented dog trainer for the past five years.
She began by training the family dog Belle. At age 10, she joined 4H and participated in the dog care and training program. She learned how to groom and care for her Australian Shepherd Maisy, as well as obedience, showmanship, and basic dog agility skills.
She said, “From there my love for dog sports grew and I began taking lessons from a competition trainer in both obedience and agility.”
At age 12, she joined the American Kennel Club (AKC) and began competing in AKC trials as a junior handler. She added, “I have also spent time teaching Maisy how to paint with a brush and countless tricks.”
She is grateful to the Homeschool program which has given her the flexibility to train and practice agility and obedience with her dog. She currently holds two tricks titles, the Advanced Good Canine Citizen title and is working on her first agility title. Kylee added, “I love playing, training, and competing with my best friend.”
