Five-year-old Jordyn Jacoby, a 1st grade student at the Da Vinci Academy at the Murrieta Student Center, was honored for her efforts in assisting her grandmother by the Temecula mayor on September 22.
Jordyn and her friends will enjoy a fire station ice cream social with rescuers who tried to assist her grandmother after Jordyn’s 911 call.
Jordyn’s mother, April, an employee of Springs Charter Schools, related the incident:
“Jordyn spent a lot of time with her 90-year-old Nana (Carol Jacoby). They were best friends. Nana was always in very good health for someone her age, but on July 29, Nana suffered heart failure and collapsed. Jordyn was the only one with her at the time. When she could not get her Nana to respond, she called 911.
When the first responders got there, they had to break in because Jordyn could not operate the deadbolt. As they worked to revive Nana she told them that her ‘Mommy was April Jacoby, and worked at River Springs Charter School.’ They contacted Andie in the office, who got me to the phone.
They were able to regain a pulse, but ultimately Carol never regained consciousness and passed away two days later. Nevertheless, what Jordyn did allowed my husband to be with his mom and say goodbye as she left this world. And, she will always be a hero in our eyes.
Jordyn is handling all this very well. I swear, she is an old soul in a little body. I want to say the men from Cal Fire and the Sheriff’s Departments have gone above and beyond, showing such care for my little girl, checking on Nana while in ICU, and then reaching out afterwards. I am very proud to be her mom and a member of the Temecula community. Carol lived here in the same house for over 47 years, and I know she would feel the same.”
