Trevor Lambert, 9, a 4th-grade student in the Murrieta Student Center, competed in the Jiu-Jitsu World League in Scottsdale, Arizona, and won the gold medal by winning four matches. The French Valley resident trains four times a week a Carlson Gracie Temecula as a grey-black belt and has competed for four years (see photos here).
He said, “I train because it’s fun sparring and making friends. I also enjoy the mental and physical challenge of self-improvement.”
His younger brother, Trenton, and father, Travis, train with him. Trevor also likes visiting national parks, biking, hiking, camping, and fishing. He also likes reading; his favorite series is Wings of Fire by Tui T. Sutherland. Springs has worked well as his school, he said, as it gives him the flexibility to train and travel to competitions.
