Lexi Gomez, a 7th-grade student with Springs’ Venture Online Program, is becoming an accomplished equestrian.
The Murrieta resident began riding horses five years ago. She owns two horses herself, and volunteers at a local ranch, which allows her to ride in its arena. When she’s not riding, she cleans the ranch stalls and feeds the horses. Lexi has “loved horses since I was very little.” She began taking riding lessons five years ago, and then entered competitions for gymkhana and barrel racing. She trains 3-5 days per week. This year, she entered the junior rodeo in which she competes in barrel racing, goat tying, and pole bending. She aspires to compete in high school rodeos and to win scholarships. She wants to become a veterinarian and own a ranch. Venture has been a good fit for her lifestyle, she said, because “it allows me the flexibility I need to train and attend many competitions.”
