Three students with Springs’ Renaissance Valley Academy (RVA) have formed a norteño band, “Darey y Sus Carnales” (“Darey and his Brothers”): Arturo Darey Gomez, Carlos Arias, and Isaiah Magana, shared RVA teacher Anick Mejia. They have performed throughout California, including at Springs’ recent IGNITE event for an audience of more than a thousand Springs employees. Click here to listen to them perform.
The trio are building their education while building a musical career, Anick noted. She explained, “They are learning to balance school, rehearsals, performances, travel, family, and responsibility. Most importantly, they are discovering that their education and their dreams do not have to compete—they can grow together.”
That is at the heart of the Springs Charter Schools mission and vision, she believes, honoring the individuality of students, creating meaningful educational opportunities, and empowering them to pursue their own path toward success.
She continued, “And through it all, the band remains grounded in family and gratitude. They are thankful for their parents, the communities that have welcomed their music, and especially RVA and Springs Charter Schools for providing an educational environment that has allowed them to continue pursuing both their education and their dream.”
