Nefertari Hammant, 17, a graduating senior from Springs’ Magnolia Student Center, was a preliminary 1st place essay winner of the 2021 Ninth Circuit Civics Contest for high school students in the Central District of California.
Her essay answered the question: “How should we as a society strike the appropriate balance within the framework of our Constitution between safeguarding our rights and fulfilling our responsibilities to each other?”
Nefertari plans to attend Riverside City College in the fall where she plans to study psychology and veterinary medicine. She likes animals, reading, and spending time with family.
