Springs Charter Schools’ La Fuente Student Center in Oceanside, which offers Springs’ new dual immersion Spanish English 50/50 program, hosts Community Nights on the 3rd Thursday of the month, 4-6 p.m.
Upcoming nights include Thursday, December 18, and Thursday, January 15. Participants enjoy a potluck dinner, a salsa dance lesson led by a Springs parent and family fun educational activities. The January 15 event will be extended to 8 p.m., and include a posole (Mexican soup) and chili cook-off.
“This is a community-building event, open to our families, friends and the families of prospective students,” remarked Amy Heald, La Fuente’s director.
The Community Nights have been a hit since they were introduced, Amy noted. The last one was a game night, with teachers introducing educational games families can play together and a few new salsa dance steps learned by all!
La Fuente opened in August, and serves students in grades TK-5. As a dual language program, students learn in English and Spanish, with an emphasis on family involvement. The program incorporates learning through activities, such as cooking Latin dishes and Salsa dancing. The students also take many local field trips; the most recent was a visit to the Hobie watercraft factory nearby the school in Oceanside.
