Homeschool Teen Volunteers at Birch Aquarium

Homeschool 11th grader Nathan Bonde is a new volunteer at the Birch Aquarium in La Jolla.

Nathan Bonde

He works at the tide pool, educating the public about the life that exists in the tide pools of Southern California.    He’s available to answer questions, and to take out animals so visitors can touch them.  He’s also worked with the sharks and given tours of the aquarium grounds.

His mother Kristen observed, “He loves volunteering and helping people.”

The 16-year-old’s career interest, she said, is to become a marine paleobiologist.  Nathan has also volunteered at the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park and the Western Science Center in Hemet.

Nathan has been a Springs Homeschool student since Kindergarten.  He likes the program’s flexibility, and the opportunities it gives him to pursue his career choice.  He also likes animal husbandry, diving, working with fossils and leading worship with his guitar and voice.
