Springs’ new Explorer Student Center, located at 9460 Sierra Avenue in Fontana, has opened, reported Principal Kari Lewis. The site is offering a 5-day, seat-based Da Vinci Academy program for TK-8th grade and learning labs for grades K-8 on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Staff is currently setting up classrooms; 60 to 100 students are expected to participate in the academy program for its inaugural year.
The staff is excited to welcome students, Kari said, and added, “What makes this school unique is the building itself. It is a beautiful two-story building with spacious and clean classrooms, perfect for our students to be able to move freely and creatively for our Da Vinci instructional model.”
She continued, “Additionally, we have a Makerspace room which is a dedicated hands-on workspace where students will gather to design, experiment, build, and invent. Instead of traditional rows of desks, think of it as a cross between a science lab, an art studio, and a workshop.”
Kari believes that the Da Vinci Academy instructional model is “a unique way for students to have the freedom to build soft skills such as creative problem solving, solutions-oriented thinking, and team building skills in addition to their traditional academic studies. This whole-child development approach will give students an increased chance of being successful in their future endeavors.”
