California Scholarship Federation seniors have the chance to apply for a $1,000 Michelson Scholarship. To apply, students must write an essay in response to the following prompt:
“At the 2009 National Conference on Volunteering and Service, First Lady Michelle Obama said, ‘The idea is to emphasize…that service is a part of who we are as Americans and to highlight the power of service to make a difference in people’s lives.’ As a member of CSF whose state motto is ‘Scholarship for Service,’ how would you describe your community service efforts in making a difference in people’s lives, and how would you expand this opportunity to include more volunteers?”
Essays must be submitted by December 22, 2016, here. The winning essay will be selected by a committee comprised of California Scholarship Federation board members. Essays will be evaluated on the basis of (1) relevance to the prompt and (2) quality of writing. The winning student and his/her adviser will be notified by the selection committee by mid-February.
