Springs High School Music Program teacher Mr. Kenley Nakao is seeking donations of instruments for students to use to form music ensembles at school sites in Riverside, Temecula, and Hemet. Kenley joined the Springs staff in 2021 and is working to build a “robust” music department, however, some of his students are unable to afford instruments on their own As student groups form, they will perform at future Springs events.
Instruments needed include:
– Flute
– Clarinet
– Saxophone(s)
– Double Reed Instruments (Bassoon or Oboe)
– Trumpet
– French Horn
– Trombone
– Baritone/Euphonium
– Tuba
– Violin
– Viola
– Cello
– Upright Bass
– Percussive instruments
– Guitar
– Ukulele
Friends of Springs who donate instruments can receive a tax write-off. When you make your donation, please provide your full legal name, contact information (including phone number and email address), list of instruments donated, estimated value, and to which charter the donation is being made (e.g. River Springs Charter). A formal letter will be provided to all donors. Since Springs’ charters are 501c3’s, donors may write off the amount of the donation when filing their taxes.
Kenley added that the department is working on solidifying music course offerings that will be accepted as dual-enrollment credit for high school graduation requirements and community college credits through a partnership with Barstow Community College.
