Tim Thomas

Class of 2010

Graduated from Homeschool

Tim Thomas, 24, of Huntington Beach has worked as a beach lifeguard for the City of Newport Beach for the past six years. He was part of Springs’ Homeschool program 2008-10, and graduated in 2010.
“I really enjoyed attending Springs as opposed to a traditional school due to the ability to self-pace,” he said. “The planning skills I gained while being homeschooled made the transition from high school to college much easier.”
After graduating from Springs, he attended Orange Coast College for two years before transferring to Cal State University Long Beach. He graduated from CSULB with a B.S. in Biology in 2014.  Tim enjoys lifeguarding, he said, because it is “an incredibly fun and rewarding job that I have loved being able to do.”  However, the drowning of fellow Newport Beach lifeguard Ben Carlson while attempting to rescue a struggling swimmer in 2014 “reminds me every day of the risks that come with this profession.”
