Class of 2013
Joey Thomas, age 21, of Huntington Beach attended the Springs’ Homeschool program 2006-13. Since his graduation in 2013, he has been attending Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa and working as a lifeguard and with the OCC surf class.
Joey attended traditional school until 5th grade, but found homeschooling a better option for him. He said, “I had more time to do fun and interesting things with my family, such as traveling. I also liked the fact that I was able to work at my own pace on my school subjects and got extra help on the subjects that were more challenging.” He added that he had a “great” education specialist, Barbara Osterkamp, “who gave us lots of support.”
He plays the drums, and plays in the OCC Woodwind Ensemble. He also enjoys surfing and body boarding.
