Legacy and Leadership Celebration
It was my great pleasure to participate in the 2026 Legacy and Leadership Celebration in June. In addition to recognizing board members for their important contributions to Springs, we also bid farewell to retiring Springs staff.
The evening began with two wonderful performances by Springs students: Abe Wilson on cello and singer Aubrey Corn, who starred in the recent Pathfinder Student Center performance of “Annie Jr.” Additionally, Jeff Rice of APLUS+ and Myrna Castrejon of the California Charter Schools Association returned to the dinner this year with some good news about state legislation related to charter schools.
Our retirees honored included principals, teachers, and custodial staff who have offered many years of outstanding service to our students. While we’ll very much miss them and the positive impact they’ve had on our school community, we wish them a happy retirement.
This year, Springs served 13,075 students, a growth of our student body from the previous year of 5%. I was pleased to share testing information that demonstrated the success our teachers have been having in helping students improve academically. I was also pleased to note that three of our charters have received renewals: River, Vista, and Harbor Springs. And, we have much good news related to facilities as we’re looking at opening new sites and improving existing ones.
Thank you to all who participated. I wish you all a very wonderful summer break, and we look forward to seeing you back at school this fall.
