Teacher Mary Hering, who has served students at the Santa Ana Learning Center since 2010, has retired, reported Marla Martindale, director of learning centers. Mrs. Hering taught art, musical theater, and literature; classes performed musicals and plays such as James and the Giant Peach, Aladdin, and musical medleys which introduced students to musical hits on Broadway.
She also had students create props and costumes, introduced them to many art genres, and provided experiences for her students’ art to be displayed in art shows online and at The Artery in Costa Mesa.
Marla remarked, “She is not a teacher who limits her work to a lesson in class each week—she works well beyond and outside of that—truly using the Community as the Classroom. Mrs. Hering is a beloved treasure at the Learning Center and she will be missed by staff, students, and parents. Her positive impact is immeasurable and we wish her nothing but the best!”
