Palm Academy 8th grade student Eileen Talavera, 14, participated in “WE Day” at the Indio Boys and Girls Club. WE Day, formerly known as Free The Children, is a youth empowerment movement which brings together prominent speakers and performers for an “unparalleled celebration of young people committed to making a difference.”
Eileen was selected for participation, according to Alyssa Gonzales, Palm Academy’s Director, because she “demonstrates leadership skills, creativity, and innovation … Eileen has shown true stewardship and acts as a role model to younger students around the campus.”
Ms. Gonzales also noted that Eileen had volunteered to raise funds for her school and the Boys and Girls Club, and is a member of the Torch Club, where young people “discuss ways to get involved in civic engagement, service-learning projects and ways to make a difference.”
