The 2020 Springs Speech Festival is an opportunity to share quality children’s literature and feature students’ abilities to interpret the literature in an oral format for a community audience. In an effort to provide the best possible experience, we have provided our families the following guidelines to assist them in selecting and presenting appropriate children’s literature for this exciting premiere event. Students will memorize and present their interpretation of a published literary work, written by a known author. Presentations are 3-5 minutes in length with grades 4-6, grades 7-8 and grades 9th-12th competing separately. Please review the rules and guidelines prior to festival preparation. Inappropriate selections will disqualify the student(s) from participating. STUDENTS MAY ONLY PARTICIPATE IN ONE EVENT.
Timing for all events:
Minimum time – 3 minutes and Maximum time – 5 minutes
The four categories of competition are:
- Serious Interpretation – Solo (A solo interpretation is one student reciting a literary selection).
- Serious Interpretation – Duo (A duo interpretation is two students reciting a literary selection in both unison and solo parts).
- Humorous Interpretation – Solo (A solo interpretation is one student reciting a literary selection).
